BONEHENGE wins the Goodwoof Barkitecture Competition!

44 Reigate Hill Flats granted planning permission!

The proposal  for 44 Reigate Hill Flats has been granted planning permission!

The scheme transforms an existing car park brownfield site, providing much needed high quality residential accommodation in Reigate town centre.

The new building, comprising of three apartments, is designed to respond to its context and sit sensitively within its leafy setting. 

The form of the building creates an elegant and sensitive arrangement with set backs, curves and openings all designed in response to the surrounding buildings. The building is composed of three curved walls wrapping around the corners which bring fluidity and interest to the form whilst containing the building footprint and reducing impact on neighbours.
These are punctuated by timber walls and planes of obscured glass which give lightness and delight to the composition for the residents of Fileturn House and The Dell.

Civic Trust Award 2021 Greater London Regional Finalist!

Birds Portchmouth Russum’s recently completed project 69 Highgate High Street has been named Civic Trust Award 2021 Greater London Regional Finalist! Hooray!

Wood Lane wins a RIBA Award!!

Birds Portchmouth Russum’s Wood Lane, Highgate, wins a RIBA Regional Award! 

All of the Birds Portchmouth Russum gang piled into 66 Portland Place on the evening of 22nd May to cheer on 6 Wood Lane and celebrate with a glass on champagne in hand!

The new 4 storey house in Highgate maximises the potential of the narrow site to add a contemporary addition to the eclectic villas along Wood Lane. The traditional relationship of living and sleeping accommodation is inverted with the bedroom set at garden level and the living area elevated above. The double height living level contains an open plan kitchen /dining / living space with an elevated crystalline conservatory on the south side and an external terrace above the entrance.
The Garden and Entrance level plinth is constructed with engineering brick to respond to its earth retaining requirements.The living area element was prefabricated off site and craned in. The living element is made by cold formed timber and resin boat building technology which ensures quality and space efficient construction.

6 Wood Lane shortlisted for a RIBA London Regional Award 2017

Birds Portchmouth Russum's recently completed 6 Wood Lane project has been shortlisted for RIBA London Regional Award 2017. The judges have made their visit and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Monday 22nd May, at RIBA HQ. Check out the pictorial guide above, and join us for a night of celebration, commiseration, and everything in between. 

Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects published in Country Life Magazine : 'The Secret Address Book'!

Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects are mentioned in the March edition of Country Life magazine: 'The Secret Address Book - The 100 best architects, builders and interior and landscape designers in Britain.' 

Modern practice whose most recent country house success was Downley House, an original sequence of differently shaped buildings that incorporated the ruined walls and set within the existing walls of an earlier house, located in a hidden valley in the South Downs AONB.

They say: ‘Our ideas draw strength from urban, historical and social analysis, contemporary culture and art through to the technology of construction.’

Richards entry to this years Article 25 10x10 auction

Article 25's 10x10 auction returns for 2016, with this years focus on the area of Brixton. Richard's drawing was based within the tricky square of Acre lane:

"Whilst today a busy highway, the past relays a diverse history. In June 1944 a ‘doodlebug’ destroyed much of the 8th Church of Christ and killed 72 people. The Trinity Asylum, founded in 1824, lies adjacent to the church. The crumbling brick and stone pier is a vestige defining the entrance to the Asylum and echoes the memory of a place – ‘West Brixton’ - lost in metropolitanisation. My drawing is a reflection of this bygone memory."

The Old Registry refurbishment complete!

The refurbishment of The Old Registry, Reigate, is complete!

Birds Portchmouth Russum worked with local contractor firm, Fileturn Ltd, developing a scheme for six new apartments in an existing Victorian building, previously used as offices. Birds Portchmouth Russum took the scheme from RIBA Stage 0 - Stage 4, alongside progressing the design for the 44 Reigate Hill new apartments to the rear of the building. Its great to see the outcome of lots of hard work!

Spinner Ash Gets Planning Permission!

Spinners Ash, Petersfield has been granted planning permission! 

The project refurbish's and enhances a 1960’s house adding the Birds Portchmouth Russum touch to the family home. 

The arrival to the house is currently undermined by the prominence of the existing studio balcony and stairs on the eastern elevation. The design encloses the garden from the entrance road, allowing glimpsed views of the architectural details as you move towards the house, whilst screening the stair to the studio within the garden enclosure. 

Changing the orientation of the stairs and projecting the curved 'glass block' structure forward of the current elevation provides an opportunity to introduce more light and generosity to the entrance sequence.
